Warning

In order to avoid being burned, do not service the exhaust system while it is still hot. Service the system when it is cool.

Warning

Avoid contact with HOT components. Wear safety glasses and protective gloves to avoid personal injury. Removal Procedure

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle

Caution

Refer to Heated Oxygen and Oxygen Sensor Caution.

Note

The heated oxygen sensor in-line connector and louvered end MUST be kept clear of all grease, dirt, and other contaminants. Do NOT use cleaning solvents of any type. Do NOT drop or roughly handle the sensor. The heated oxygen sensor MAY be difficult to remove when the engine temperature is less than 48°C (120°F).

7. Electrical Connector @ Heated Oxygen Sensor - Bank 1 Sensor 1 » Disconnect
8. Using a suitable tool, remove the heated oxygen sensor - bank 1 sensor 1 (1).

10. Using a suitable tool, remove the heated oxygen sensor - bank 1 sensor 2 (1).

12. Using a suitable tool, remove the heated oxygen sensor - bank 2 sensor 1 (1).

14. Using a suitable tool, remove the heated oxygen sensor - bank 2 sensor 2 (1).

15. Exhaust Front Pipe Nut - Left Side (1) » Remove [3x]

16. Exhaust Front Pipe Nut - Right Side (1) » Remove [3x]
17. Lower and support the exhaust system as necessary.

18. Exhaust System Seal - Left Side (1) » Remove and DISCARD

19. Exhaust System Seal - Right Side (1) » Remove and DISCARD
20. Place a drain pan under the vehicle.

21. Automatic Transmission Fluid Pan Bolt (1) » Remove [16x]
22. Automatic Transmission Fluid Pan (2) » Remove

Note

The fluid pan gasket is reusable. Inspect the gasket to determine if it may be reused. If the gasket is stuck to the case or pan, it should be replaced.

24. Automatic Transmission Fluid Filter Bolt (1) » Remove and DISCARD [2x]

Caution

Pull the fluid filter assembly straight out to avoid damage. Do not bend or twist the filter neck.

25. Automatic Transmission Fluid Filter (2) » Remove

26. Automatic Transmission Fluid Pump Seal (3) » Remove and DISCARD Installation Procedure

27. Automatic Transmission Fluid Pump Seal (3) » Install NEW

28. Automatic Transmission Fluid Filter (2) » Install

Caution

Refer to Fastener Caution.

3. Automatic Transmission Fluid Filter Bolt (1) » Install NEW and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

4. Automatic Transmission Fluid Pan Gasket (3) » Install

5. Automatic Transmission Fluid Pan (2) » Install

6. Automatic Transmission Fluid Pan Bolt (1) » Install and tighten in sequence [16x] — Fastener Specifications

7. Exhaust System Seal - Right Side (1) » Install NEW

8. Exhaust System Seal - Left Side (1) » Install NEW

9. Raise and support the exhaust system as necessary.

10. Exhaust Front Pipe Nut - Right Side (1) » Install and tighten [3x] — Fastener Specifications

11. Exhaust Front Pipe Nut - Left Side (1) » Install and tighten [3x] — Fastener Specifications

12. Exhaust Front Pipe Heat Shield (2) » Install

13. Exhaust Heat Shield Bolt (1) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

14. Exhaust Front Pipe Heat Shield (2) » Install

15. Exhaust Heat Shield Bolt (1) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

Caution

Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Caution.

Note

A special anti-seize compound is used in the HO2S threads. The compound consists of liquid graphite and glass beads. The graphite tends to burn away, but the glass beads remain, making the sensor easier to remove. New, or service replacement sensors already have the compound applied to the threads. If the sensor is removed from an exhaust component and if for any reason the sensor is to be reinstalled, the threads must have anti-seize compound applied before reinstallation. 16. Using a suitable tool, install and tighten the heated oxygen sensor - bank 2 sensor 2 (1). Fastener Specifications

18. Using a suitable tool, install and tighten the heated oxygen sensor - bank 2 sensor 1 (1). Fastener Specifications

19. Electrical Connector @ Heated Oxygen Sensor - Bank 2 Sensor 1 » Connect

20. Using a suitable tool, install and tighten the heated oxygen sensor - bank 1 sensor 2 (1). Fastener Specifications

21. Electrical Connector @ Heated Oxygen Sensor - Bank 1 Sensor 2 » Connect

22. Using a suitable tool, install and tighten the heated oxygen sensor - bank 1 sensor 1 (1). Fastener Specifications

24. Front Wheelhouse Liner - Left Side and Right Side » Install — Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement

25. Inspect the exhaust system for leaks.

26. Remove the drain pan.

27. Fill the transmission to the proper level with NEW transmission fluid. Transmission Fluid Level and Condition Check

28. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
