Liftgate Strut Replacement

Warning

When a lift gate hold open device is being removed or installed, provide alternate support to avoid the possibility of damage to the vehicle or personal injury.

Caution

DO NOT exceed the limit of the liftgate strut ball socket joint’s free motion during installation to prevent the possibility of damage to the strut. Removal Procedure

1. Release the strut retainer clips (1)  using a small flat bladed tool to retract clip slightly while removing strut end from corresponding ball stud.
2. Liftgate Strut (2) » Remove Installation Procedure

Note

Ensure the clip is fully seated when the rod is reinstalled. If the clip cannot be fully seated, a new rod should be installed.

1. Liftgate Strut (2) » Install
2. Install the strut to the liftgate ball stud first and then install to the body bracket ball stud.
3. Ensure the clip is fully seated when the rod is reinstalled. If the clip cannot be fully seated, a new rod should be installed.
