Headlining Trim Panel Replacement (SWB with C3U)

Caution

If a vehicle is equipped with a head curtain inflator module ensure that the inflator module and tether are undamaged. If tether or curtain airbag are damaged in any way, they must be replaced.

Caution

Use care when working around the head curtain inflator module. Sharp tools may puncture the curtain airbag. If the head curtain inflator module is damaged in any way, it must be replaced. Removal Procedure

1. Disable the SIR system. SIR Disabling and Enabling

2. Reposition the weatherstrip as necessary.
3. Pull down the windshield garnish molding (1) rearwards to release the tether from the A pillar.
4. Access the windshield garnish bolt (2) on the backside of the windshield garnish molding (1).

7. Reposition the weatherstrip as necessary.

11. Using a flat-bladed plastic trim tool, release the retaining clips.

13. Fold the assist handle downward and hold. (2)
14. Use a small flat-bladed tool to open the assist handle covers to access the bolts.

17. Sunshade Retainer Bolt Cover (1) » Remove
18. Sunshade Bolt (2) » Remove [3x]
19. Squeeze the tabs at the base of the sunshade (3) to detach it from the roof panel and allow the headliner with the sunshade attached to be lowered.
20. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
21. Release the retainer attaching the sunshade (3) to the headlining trim panel.

23. Sunshade Retainer Bolt Cover (1) » Remove
24. Sunshade Bolt (2) » Remove [3x]
25. Squeeze the tabs at the base of the sunshade (3) to detach it from the roof panel and allow the headliner with the sunshade attached to be lowered.
26. Disconnect the electrical connector.
27. Release the retainer attaching the sunshade (3) to the headlining trim panel.

29. Using a flat-bladed plastic trim tool, release the retaining clips.

33. Disconnect the electrical connectors.

34. Open the sunshade support bolt access covers with an appropriate tool on both sides of vehicle.
35. Sunshade Support Bolt (1) » Remove [2x]
36. Using the appropriate tool, release the metal sunshade support retainers on both sides of vehicle.

38. Insert a suitable flat-bladed plastic trim tool between the windshield multifunction sensor mount bracket cover insert (1) and windshield multifunction sensor mount bracket cover (2).
39. Separate the windshield multifunction sensor mount bracket cover insert (1) from the windshield multifunction sensor mount bracket cover (2).

41. Using a suitable plastic trim tool, carefully pry downward on the windshield multifunction sensor mount bracket cover (1) to release it from the windshield.
42. Pull downward to remove the windshield multifunction sensor mount bracket cover (1) from the windshield.

43. Insert a suitable flat-bladed plastic trim tool between the roof rail rear seat position reading and courtesy lamp (1) and headlining trim panel (2).
44. Separate the roof rail rear seat position reading and courtesy lamp (1) from the headlining trim panel (2).

45. Disconnect the electrical connector.

54. Pull downward to release the retaining tabs.

60. Move both front seats fully forward.
61. Use a flat bladed plastic tool between the center pillar center trim panel (1) and the center pillar upper trim panel to disengage the upper retaining clips (2) on both sides of the vehicle.
62. Pull from both sides of the center pillar center trim panel (1) to release the middle and lower retaining clips (2) on both sides of the vehicle.

Caution

64. Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel Bolt Cap (1) » Remove [2x]
65. Center Pillar Upper Garnish Molding Bolt (2)» Remove [2x]
66. Pull the center pillar upper trim panel (3) toward the inside of the vehicle to disengage the retaining clips on both sides of the vehicle.

Note

The center pillar upper trim panel does not need to be fully removed from the vehicle.

97. Using a suitable trim tool, gently pry and pull downwards on the rear seat belt opening bezel  (2) to release the retaining clip on both sides of the vehicle.

99. Reposition the sunroof housing front drain hose.

101. Disengage the retainer (2) at the bottom of the harness.

Note

Prior to removal, note the routing of the wire harness to aid in reassembly and to ensure proper installation.

102. Lower the headlining trim panel (1).
103. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
104. Disengage the retaining clips (2) at the rear of the headliner trim panel and around the sunroof opening.
105. With the aid of an assistant, remove the headlining trim panel (1) from the vehicle through the liftgate opening.

107. Transfer components as necessary.
108. If transferring or replacing the wiring harness. Take note of the wiring harness locations and measure the harness lead length prior to removing. Mark harness routing locations on new headlining trim panel (2) prior to harness removal.

Note

Use a camera to take pictures and use a pencil to mark the new headlining trim panel (2) . Use fiber or plastic trim tool to assist in removing the wiring harness from the headlining trim panel (2) , taking care not to damage the harness. Remove excess glue and material from the wiring harness and re-tape areas where the tape was removed or damaged. Installation Procedure

1. Install the headliner wiring harness, if necessary. Lay the wiring harness on the new headlining trim panel (1) to confirm correct routing and ensure harness leads are proper length for mating connections prior to gluing. Use hot melt adhesive to install the wiring harness. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers Apply insulator tape over glued locations to prevent squeaks and rattles as needed.

2. With the aid of an assistant, position the headlining trim panel (1) into the vehicle through the liftgate opening.

3. Connect the electrical connectors.

4. Engage the retaining clips (2) at the rear underside of the headlining trim panel (1).

6. Engage the retainer (2) at the bottom of the harness.

7. Retaining Clip (1) » Install [2x]

8. Reposition the sunroof housing front drain hose.

9. Rear Seat Belt Opening Bezel (2) » Install [2x]

10. 3rd Row Seat Belt Guide (1) » Install [2x]

11. Rear Seat Belt Guide Bolt (2) » Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

12. 3rd Row Seat Belt Guide Cover (1) » Close

13. Feed the 3rd row seat center belt through the rear seat center belt opening bezel (1).

14. Rear Seat Center Belt Opening Bezel - 3rd Row Seat (1) » Install

15. Connect the rear seat belt mini-latch (1).

16. Body Rear Corner Upper Garnish Molding (1) » Reposition

17. Body Rear Corner Upper Garnish Molding Bolt (1) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

18. Body Side Rear Window Garnish Molding Tether Retaining Clip (2) » Install

19. Body Side Rear Window Garnish Molding Bolt (1) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

Note

Position the body side rear window garnish molding tether in the same position as before the molding removal.

22. Quarter Window Trim Finish Panel Bolt (2) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

24. Body Rear Corner Upper Garnish Molding (1) » Reposition

25. Body Rear Corner Upper Garnish Molding Bolt (1) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

26. Body Side Rear Window Garnish Molding Tether Retaining Clip (2) » Install

27. Body Side Rear Window Garnish Molding Bolt (1) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

Position the body side rear window garnish molding tether in the same position as before the molding removal.

30. Quarter Window Trim Finish Panel Bolt (2) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

31. Quarter Window Trim Finish Panel Bolt Cap (1) » Install

32. Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel (3) » Install [2x]

33. Center Pillar Upper Garnish Molding Bolt (2)» Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

34. Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel Bolt Cap (1) » Install [2x]

35. Align the retaining clips (2) with the upper and lower trim panels on both sides of the vehicle.

36. Center Pillar Center Trim Panel (1) » Install [2x]

37. Coat Hook (2) » Install [4x]

38. Coat Hook Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [4x] — Fastener Specifications

39. Connect the electrical connector.

40. Cargo Center Courtesy Lamp (1) » Install

41. Apply pressure upward on the cargo center courtesy lamp (1) to engage the retaining tabs.

42. Connect the electrical connector.

43. Rear Seat Position Center Reading and Courtesy Lamp - Rear (1) » Install

44. Apply pressure upward on the rear seat position center reading and courtesy lamp (1) to engage the retaining tabs.

45. Connect the electrical connector.

46. Roof Rail Rear Seat Position Reading and Courtesy Lamp (1) » Install [2x]

47. Install the windshield multifunction sensor mount bracket cover (1) ensuring the retaining tabs are fully seated.

48. Windshield Multifunction Sensor Mount Bracket Cover Insert (1) » Install

49. Apply pressure upward on the windshield multifunction sensor mount bracket cover insert (1)  to engage the retaining tabs.

50. Sunshade Support (2) » Install [2x]

51. Sunshade Support Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

52. Close the sunshade support bolt access covers.

53. Connect the electrical connectors.

54. Roof Console (3) » Install

55. Roof Console Bolt (2) » Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

56. Roof Console Opening Trim Plate (1) » Install

57. Connect the electrical connector.

58. Install the retainer that attaches the sunshade to the headliner.

59. Sunshade - Right Side (3) » Install

60. Sunshade Bolt (2) » Install and tighten [3x] — Fastener Specifications

61. Sunshade Retainer Bolt Cover (1) » Install

62. Connect the electrical connector.

63. Install the retainer that attaches the sunshade to the headliner.

67. Roof Rail Assist Handle (2) » Install [2x]

68. Roof Rail Assist Handle Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [4x] — Fastener Specifications

69. Radio Front Speaker Grille (1) » Install

70. Windshield Garnish Molding - Right Side (3) » Install

71. Windshield Pillar Assist Handle Bolt (2) » Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

72. Windshield Pillar Assist Handle Cover (1) » Install [2x]

73. Reposition the weatherstrip as necessary.

74. Windshield Garnish Molding Bolt (2) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

75. Align the retainer clips with the slots in the A pillar and press the windshield garnish molding  (1) into place.

76. Windshield Garnish Molding - Left Side (1) » Install

77. Reposition the weatherstrip as necessary.
