Warning

If the air lines need to be removed to perform repairs on any air suspension components, depressurize the Automatic Level Control System. This will prevent vehicle damage or personal injury.

Warning

Do NOT remove Automatic Level Control System components under any circumstances when the system is pressurized. Disconnecting a pressurized air line that is connected to an Automatic Level Control System component can cause damage to components or personal injury.

Caution

After servicing Automatic Air Suspension Leveling System, use Nitrogen to recharge the system. Using compressed air can expose the Automatic Air Suspension Leveling System components to moisture and or dirt resulting in premature wear requiring unnecessary repairs.

Note

ONLY use hand tools to perform the following service procedure. Removal Procedure

Note

Service mode will be automatically enabled when the ride height sensors detect the vehicle has been lifted off the ground. Service mode will automatically be disabled when the vehicle reaches 16 km/h(10 MPH).

1. Raise the vehicle until the tires are off the ground. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
2. Using the scan tool, deflate the air spring that will be serviced.

11. Using a suitable jack stand, support the rear suspension lower control arm.

15. Using the jack stand, lower the rear suspension lower control arm (1) to allow clearance for removal of the rear shock absorber.

19. Remove the air line nut (2) and reposition the air line.

1. Remove the electrical terminals from the electronic suspension position sensor electrical connector (1). Terminal Removal
2. Remove the rear suspension upper mounting cap (2).

3. Place the split collar of the CH-45400-100 Strut Compressor Adapters (3) onto the rear shock absorber contacting the bottom of the retaining ring.

Note

The bolts on the strut compressor adapters should only be hand tight. They do not need to be torqued, the tool should spin freely on the shock tube when installed.

4. Install the CH-45400-100 Strut Compressor Adapters (1) around the split collars, hand tightening the 2 nuts (2).

Note

Since the spring was deflated before removing from the vehicle, the spring compressor is just used as a holding fixture to loosen the top nut. Only minimal pressure is required to hold the spring assembly.

5. Install and secure the rear shock absorber (1) with CH-45400-100 Strut Compressor Adapters into the CH-48845 Strut Spring Compressor ensuring that it is properly positioned as shown.

6. Using a small screwdriver (1) depress the valve (2) to relieve any remaining pressure in the air spring.

7. Remove the rear shock absorber shock rod mount nut (1) using CH-50732-A Strut Rod Nut Socket (2) and a suitable wrench to hold the shock rod.
8. Remove the rear shock absorber from the CH-48845 Strut Spring Compressor.

Note

Inspect the air spring to ensure the shock absorber seals or washers did not stay inside the of the air spring.

9. Remove the rear air spring (1) from the rear shock absorber (2).

Note the position of the of the upper and lower rear shock absorber spacers.

10. Remove and DISCARD the rear shock absorber lower spacer (1).
11. Remove and DISCARD the rear air spring seal (2).
12. Remove and DISCARD the rear shock absorber lower spacer (3).
13. Remove and DISCARD the rear shock absorber upper insulator (4).

14. Remove and DISCARD the rear shock absorber seal (1).
15. Remove and DISCARD the rear suspension strut washer (2).

16. Remove the jounce plate assembly (1).

17. Remove the rear lower spring seat (2).

19. Inspect the components and replace as necessary. Assembly Procedure

20. Rear Shock Absorber Seal (3) » Install NEW [2x]

21. Install the rear lower spring seat (2).

22. Install the jounce plate assembly (1).

Note

Ensure the concave (beveled) side of the strut washer is facing down. The o-ring should rest on the flat surface of the spacer.

4. Install the NEW rear suspension strut washer (2).
5. Place electrical tape around the threads of the rear air shock absorber to prevent damage to the seal in the rear air spring.
6. Install the NEW rear shock absorber seal (1).

Note

Ensure the recess of the upper insulator is facing down.

7. Install the NEW rear shock absorber upper insulator (4).
8. Install the NEW rear shock absorber lower spacer (3).
9. Install the NEW rear air spring seal (2).
10. Install the NEW rear shock absorber lower spacer (1).

Note

Use mechanics wire to guide the harness through the rear air spring.

11. Remove electrical tape from rear air shock absorber threads.
12. Install the rear air spring (1) to the rear air shock absorber.

13. Identify the stud (2) in relationship to the airline valve (1).

14. Ensure the identified stud (1) is aligned to the Shock absorber bushing barrel (2).

15. Place the split collar of the CH-45400-100 Strut Compressor Adapters (3) onto the rear shock absorber contacting the bottom of the retaining ring.

Note

The bolts on the strut compressor adapters should only be hand tight. They do not need to be torqued, the tool should spin freely on the shock tube when installed.

16. Install the CH-45400-100 Strut Compressor Adapters (1) around the split collars, hand tightening the 2 nuts (2).

17. Install and secure the rear shock absorber (1) with CH-45400-100 Strut Compressor Adapters into the CH-48845 Strut Spring Compressor ensuring that it is properly positioned as shown.

Caution

Refer to Fastener Caution.

18. Install and tighten the rear shock absorber shock rod mount nut (1) using CH-50732-A Strut Rod Nut Socket (2) and a suitable wrench to hold the shock rod. Fastener Specifications.

Caution

Failure to inflate the Air Spring with CH-52667 Air Spring Inflator PRIOR to installing the Air Spring into the vehicle will not allow the Air Spring to be properly seated against the spring seat, and will result in an air leak at the O-Ring Seals. Failure to properly inflate the Air Spring can cause component damage or personal injury.

19. Using CH-52667 Air Spring Inflator, adjust the regulator to 2 bar (30 psi) and fill the rear air spring.

20. Remove CH-52667 Air Spring Inflator.

21. Remove the rear shock absorber (1) from the CH-48845 Strut Spring Compressor.

22. Install the rear suspension upper mounting cap (2).

23. Install the electrical terminal to the electronic suspension position sensor electrical connector  (1). Terminal Removal

24. Loosen the nuts (2)  and remove the strut compressor adapters (1) of the CH-45400-100 Strut Compressor Adapters.

25. Remove the split collar (3) of the CH-45400-100 Strut Compressor Adapters from the rear shock absorber. Installation Procedure

28. Install the air line nut (2) and tighten. Fastener Specifications

29. Electrical Connector (1) » Connect

31. Using the jack stand, raise the rear suspension lower control arm (1).

35. Remove the jack stand from under the rear suspension lower control arm.

36. Rear Brake Hose Bracket (2) » Install [2x]

37. Rear Brake Hose Bracket Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

38. Rear Wheelhouse Liner (1) » Install

39. Rear Wheelhouse Liner Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [7x] — Fastener Specifications

40. Rear Wheelhouse Liner Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [3x] — Fastener Specifications

41. Rear Wheelhouse Liner Retainer (2) » Install

42. Rear Wheelhouse Liner Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [4x] — Fastener Specifications

43. Install the rear tire and wheel assembly. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation

44. With the vehicle off the hoist and on flat level ground, use the scan tool to reset trim heights.
