1. Traction Control Switch Inoperative

K9 Body Control Module Chassis Control Data Active/Inactive The parameter will switch between inactive and active when the traction control switch is pressed.

Circuit/System Description The K9 Body Control Module monitors the switch on signal circuit 1788 and the switch receives a constant ground on ground circuit 1851. When the traction control switch is pressed once, the K9  Body Control Module requests the brake system K160 Brake System Control Module via serial data to disable the traction control. The K160 Brake System Control Module commands the instrument cluster via serial data to turn the traction control off indicator ON and display the Traction Control Off message on the driver information center to notify the driver of the deactivation. When the traction control switch is pressed and held for five seconds, the K9 Body Control Module requests the K160 Brake System Control Module to disable the traction control and stability control. The K160 Brake System Control Module commands the instrument cluster via serial data to turn the traction control off indicator ON and the traction/stability indicator ON to notify the driver of the deactivation.   1. Ignition ON.
  2. Verify the scan tool Traction Control Switch parameter changes between Active and Inactive when pressing and releasing the traction control switch. ⇒ If the parameter does not change Refer to Circuit/System Testing. ⇓ If the parameter changes
  3. All OK. A fault is currently not present and may be an intermittent condition. Circuit/System Testing
  4. Ignition OFF, disconnect the connector at the S86 Vehicle Stability Control System Switch.
  5. Verify a test lamp illuminates between terminal 10 and B+ ⇒ If the test lamp does not illuminate Repair the open/high resistance on circuit 1851 or the ground connection. ⇓ If the test lamp illuminates
  6. Ignition ON.
  7. Verify the scan tool Traction Control Switch parameter is Inactive. ⇒ If not Inactive 4.1. Test circuit 1788 for a short to ground. ⇒ If a short to ground is found, repair the fault on the circuit. ⇓ If a short to ground is not found 4.2. Replace the K9 Body Control Module. ⇓ If Inactive
  8. Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between terminal 1 and ground.
  9. Verify the scan tool Traction Control Switch parameter is Active. ⇒ If not Active 6.1. Test circuit 1788 for an open/high resistance. ⇒ If an open/high resistance is found, repair the fault on the circuit. ⇓ If an open/high resistance is not found 6.2. Replace the K9 Body Control Module. ⇓ If Active
  10. Test or replace the S86 Vehicle Stability Control System Switch. Component Testing
  11. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S86 Vehicle Stability Control System Switch.
  12. Test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal 1 and the ground terminal 10 with the switch in the open position. ⇒ If less than infinite resistance Replace the S86 Vehicle Stability Control System Switch. ⇓ If infinite resistance
  13. Test for less than 2 Ω between the signal circuit terminal 1 and the ground terminal 10 with the switch in the closed position. ⇒ If 2 Ω or greater Replace the S86 Vehicle Stability Control System Switch. ⇓ If less than 2 Ω
