Component Description
Park Brake Actuator The park brake function uses the same brake pads as the operational brake in the rear calipers. An electric motor in each caliper is used to apply and release the brake pads.
K160 Brake System Control Module The control module K160 can increase and decrease the brake pressure on all 4 wheels individually in order to fulfill these functions: Antilock Braking Traction Control Vehicle Stability Control The control module K160 can also influence the following control modules to limit the amount of produced torque: K20 Engine Control Module K71 Transmission Control Module

Conditions for Running the DTC Ignition = On or Vehicle = Service Mode System Voltage = 9 to 16 V Conditions for Setting the DTC K160 Brake System Control Module — Park Brake = Internal Malfunction K160 Brake System Control Module — Park Brake = Calibration Not Learned Parking Brake Actuator = Stuck Actions Taken When the DTC Sets Parking Brake Actuator = Disabled The park brake can be released one single time. A message and/or warning indicator may be displayed to the driver. Conditions for Clearing the DTC The conditions for setting the DTC no longer exist. A history DTC will clear after 40 consecutive malfunction-free ignition cycles. Release the parking brake. 2.5. Verify the DTC does not set. ⇒ If the DTC sets » Replace the component: K160 Brake System Control Module ⇓ If the DTC is not set 2.6. All OK. ⇓ If the DTC is not set

  5. Verify the condition does not exist: Parking Brake System = Service Release ⇒ If a condition exists Perform the following learn procedure: Park Brake Calibration. ⇓ If no condition exists
  6. Verify DTC is not set: ⇒ If the DTC is set 3.1. Verify the correct operation: Parking Brake System Refer to: Park Brake System Diagnosis 3.2. Verify the condition does not exist: Rear Disc Brake Pad = Worn Refer to: Brake Pad Inspection 3.3. Perform all necessary programming and setup procedures for the control module: K160  Brake System Control Module 3.4. Ignition » On / Vehicle » In Service Mode 3.5. Apply the parking brake. 3.6. Release the parking brake. 3.7. Verify the DTC does not set. ⇒ If the DTC is set 3.7.1. Test for less than 50 Ω between the test points: Terminal 1 & Terminal 2 @ M104L  Parking Brake Actuator - Left & Terminal 1 & Terminal 2 @ M104R Parking Brake Actuator - Right ⇒ If greater than 50 Ω » Replace the component: M104L Parking Brake Actuator - Left or M104R Parking Brake Actuator - Right ⇒ If less than 50 Ω » Replace the component: K160 Brake System Control Module ⇓ If the DTC is not set
