Single Use Fasteners and Components Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Gasket Oil Level Indicator Tube Seal Removal Procedure

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
2. Secure the steering wheel so it will not turn when the upper intermediate steering shaft and steering column are disconnected.

3. Engine Oil Level Indicator (1) » Remove
4. Drain the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling
5. Front Wheelhouse Liner - Left Side » Remove — Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement
6. Lower the vehicle.

9. Engine Wiring Harness Bracket Nut (1) » Remove [2x]
10. Engine Wiring Harness Bracket (2) » Reposition

11. Oil Level Indicator Tube Stud (1) » Remove
12. Clip (2) @ Oil Level Indicator Tube » Remove

14. Oil Level Indicator Tube (1) @ Lower Crankcase Extension » Remove
15. Oil Level Indicator Tube Seal (2) » Remove and DISCARD
16. Place a drain pan under the engine coolant flow control valve.

17. Hose Clamp (1) » Disengage [4x] — Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
18. Thermostat Bypass Hose (5) @ Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve » Remove
19. Engine Oil Cooler Coolant Inlet Hose (4) @ Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve » Remove
20. Thermostat Bypass Hose (3) @ Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve » Remove
21. Radiator Inlet Hose (2) @ Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve » Remove

22. Reposition hoses and clips as necessary.
23. Electrical Connector (1) @ Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve » Disconnect [3x]

27. Thermostat Bypass Pipe Bolt (2) » Remove
28. Exhaust Gas Recirculation Coolant Return Pipe (3) » Remove

29. Disconnect electrical connector (1) at the brake master cylinder and position the harness aside.

30. Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve Bolt (1) » Remove [6x]
31. Remove the engine coolant flow control valve (2) through the wheel opening.
32. Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Gasket (3) » Remove and DISCARD
33. Remove the drain pan.
34. Transfer components as necessary. Cleaning and Inspection Procedure - Conditional

Note

The following cleaning and inspection and/or overhaul steps are ONLY to be performed as determined necessary based on the condition of the part being removed with the intention of reinstallation. The labor time to perform any of these steps is not included in the base labor time and if required would need to be documented and submitted as Other Labor Hours for warranty claim reimbursement. A description of the repairs performed must be documented in the technician correction comments.

Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve Replacement — figure 14

1. Clean the engine coolant flow control valve (1).

2. Inspect the engine coolant flow control valve (1).

3. Replace the engine coolant flow control valve (1) if any damage is found. Installation Procedure

4. Clean the sealing surface of the engine block.

5. Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Gasket (3) » Install NEW

6. Install the engine coolant flow control valve (2) through the wheel opening.

Caution

Refer to Fastener Caution.

4. Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [6x] — Fastener Specifications

5. To aid in installation, route the oil level indicator tube into position but do not install it to the lower crankcase extension at this time.

6. Oil Level Indicator Tube Seal (2) @ Oil Level Indicator Tube » Install NEW

7. Oil Level Indicator Tube (1) @ Lower Crankcase Extension » Install

8. Position the wiring harness into place and connect electrical connector (1) at the brake master cylinder.

9. Electrical Connector (1) @ Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve » Connect [3x]

10. Install the hoses and clips as necessary.

11. Exhaust Gas Recirculation Coolant Return Pipe (3) » Install

12. Thermostat Bypass Pipe Bolt (2) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

13. Hose Clamp (1) » Engage — Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type

14. Thermostat Bypass Hose (3) » Install

15. Hose Clamp (1) » Engage — Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type

16. Radiator Inlet Hose (2) @ Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve » Install

17. Thermostat Bypass Hose (3) @ Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve » Install

18. Engine Oil Cooler Coolant Inlet Hose (4) @ Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve » Install

19. Thermostat Bypass Hose (5) @ Engine Coolant Flow Control Valve » Install

20. Hose Clamp (1) » Engage [4x] — Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type

21. Oil Level Indicator Tube Bolt (1) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

22. Clip (2) @ Oil Level Indicator Tube » Install

23. Oil Level Indicator Tube Stud (1) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

24. Engine Wiring Harness Bracket (2) » Install

25. Engine Wiring Harness Bracket Nut (1) » Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

26. Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft (1) @ Intermediate Shaft » Install

27. If a NEW threaded component is being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded component is reused, prepare the threaded component using the following steps: 27.1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth. 27.2. Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive. 27.3. Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the component. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers 27.4. Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.

28. Mid Intermediate Steering Shaft Bolt (1) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

29. Front Wheelhouse Liner - Left Side » Install — Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement

30. Install the negative battery cable to the battery. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection

31. Remove the device used to prevent steering column rotation.

32. Fill the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling

33. Engine Oil Level Indicator (1) » Install

34. Start the engine and check for leaks.
