Underhood/Underbody Connector Cleaning Procedure

Before attempting to disconnect the sealed connector, use a small non pressurized water spray bottle. Spray the water liberally and directly onto any moving parts of the connector (i.e. slides, CPAs, latches, etc.), spray around all exposed surfaces, top, bottom, and sides, this will loosen dirt, grit, and other debris. The more water that is used will help the connector become cleaner. Do not attempt to disconnect any connectors until Step 7.
Carefully use a non-metallic brush (i.e. toothbrush, painter’s brush) to clean any remaining dirt, grit or other debris off the connector. When brushing, brush in a direction so the dirt, grit and other debris are moved away from sensitive areas (i.e. seals, levers, gears, etc.).
Use the small water spray bottle in Step 2 to clear any additional dirt, grit or debris dislodged by the brush in Step 3.
Use a clean rag to dry the connector, then use compressed air (min. 12“ away from the connector). With the rag and compressed air, direct the air in a direction that will direct the dirt, grit and other debris away from sensitive areas (i.e. seals, levers, gears, etc.).
Repeat Steps 2 - 5 until all visible debris are removed from the connector.

Attempt to disconnect the connector. If there is excessive resistance, repeat steps 2 - 6 until the connector can be fully disconnected.
After connector removal, perform additional cleaning of the header/mating part may be necessary. Using a damp (NOT DRIPPING WET) clean paper towel or rag, brush off the heavy deposits. This effort should be directed toward the outside of the header/mating part, and away from the internal area where the terminals are located.
Inspect the connector to make sure it is dry and free of dirt, grit and debris before attempting to reconnect the connector.
