The function of the liftgate latch and the liftgate window latch will be disabled if the rear
wiper motor has been activated and wiping the liftgate window
When the passenger door, right rear door and liftgate have been commanded to lock with a door
lock switch or a keyless entry transmitter, the exterior liftgate release switch will become
inoperative the same way the passenger door handles will become inoperative to prevent
unauthorized access. Also the passenger and right rear doors must be commanded to unlock to
enable the exterior liftgate release switch. When the exterior liftgate release switch is pressed, the
body control module will provide B+ voltage to the liftgate latch unlatch control circuit and ground
to the unlock control 2 circuit causing the liftgate latch assembly to perform the unlatch function
releasing the liftgate and allowing the liftgate to be pulled open.

Exterior Liftgate Window Release Switch
The lighting control module (TB4) or the rear gate module (TC2) monitors supplies a 12 V signal
to the liftgate window unlatch switch so that when the switch is pressed, the voltage within the
signal circuit is pulled low and in response, the lighting control module (TB4) or the rear gate
module (TC2) will detect the voltage drop and send a serial data message to the body control
module to command the liftgate window to release.
Liftgate Window Latch
When body control module receives a liftgate window release command from the liftgate window
unlatch switch, the body control module applies voltage to the liftgate window unlatch relay
control circuit, which energizes the coil side of the relay. The switch side of the liftgate window
unlatch relay then momentarily closes, supplying a brief pulse of battery positive voltage to the
liftgate window latch. The liftgate window latch is continuously grounded and when it receives the
voltage pulse, it will become energized and the latch will activate releasing the liftgate window so
that it may be manually raised to an open position.
