Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement

Removal Procedure

  1. Secure the steering wheel so it will not turn when the intermediate steering shaft is disconnected.
  2. Remove the left front tire and wheel assembly. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation

  1. Mid Intermediate Steering Shaft Bolt (1) » Remove

  1. Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft (1) @ Intermediate Steering Shaft » Separate
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle

  1. {with RC1} Remove the underbody skid shield. 7.1. Underbody Skid Shield Bolt (1) » Remove [2x] 7.2. Underbody Splash Shield Bolt (2) » Remove [2x] 7.3. Underbody Skid Shield (3) » Remove

  1. {without RC1} Remove the underbody skid shield. 8.1. Underbody Skid Shield Bolt (1) » Remove [4x] 8.2. Underbody Skid Shield (2) » Remove

  1. Front Bumper Fascia Air Deflector Bolt (1) » Remove [10x]
  2. Front Bumper Fascia Extension Bolt (2) » Remove [8x]

  1. Pull the front bumper fascia extension (1) rearward and down from the front bumper fascia.

  1. Front Bumper Fascia Extension Bolt (2) » Remove [4x]
  2. Pull the front bumper fascia extension rear (4) rearward and down.

  1. Intermediate Steering Shaft Lower Bolt (1) » Remove

  1. Intermediate Steering Shaft (1) » Remove Installation Procedure

  2. Intermediate Steering Shaft (1) » Install

  3. If a NEW threaded component is being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded component is reused, prepare the threaded component using the following steps: 2.1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth. 2.2. Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive. 2.3. Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the component. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers 2.4. Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.

  1. Intermediate Steering Shaft Lower Bolt (1) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

  2. Front Bumper Fascia Extension - Rear (4) » Install

  3. Front Bumper Fascia Extension Bolt (2) » Install and tighten [4x] — Fastener Specifications

  4. Front Bumper Fascia Extension (1) » Install

  5. Front Bumper Fascia Extension Bolt (2) » Install and tighten [8x] — Fastener Specifications

  6. Front Bumper Fascia Air Deflector Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [10x] — Fastener Specifications

  7. {without RC1} Install the underbody skid shield. 9.1. Underbody Skid Shield (2) » Install 9.2. Underbody Skid Shield Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [4x] — Fastener Specifications

  1. {with RC1} Install the underbody skid shield. 10.1. Underbody Skid Shield (3) » Install 10.2. Underbody Splash Shield Bolt (2) » Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications 10.3. Underbody Skid Shield Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

  2. Lower the vehicle.

  3. Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft (1) @ Intermediate Steering Shaft » Install

  4. If a NEW threaded component is being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded component is reused, prepare the threaded component using the following steps: 13.1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth. 13.2. Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive. 13.3. Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the component. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers 13.4. Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.

  2. Front Wheelhouse Liner - Left Side » Install — Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement
  3. Install the left front tire and wheel assembly. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
  4. Remove the device used to prevent steering column rotation.
