Single Use Fasteners and Components Instrument Panel Airbag Removal Procedure

Warning

Refer to SIR Inflator Module Handling and Storage Warning.

Warning

Refer to SIR Warning.

Caution

If a vehicle is equipped with a head curtain inflator module ensure that the inflator module and tether are undamaged. If tether or curtain airbag are damaged in any way, they must be replaced.

Caution

Use care when working around the head curtain inflator module. Sharp tools may puncture the curtain airbag. If the head curtain inflator module is damaged in any way, it must be replaced.

3. Using a flat-bladed plastic trim tool, release the retaining clips.

5. Using a flat-bladed plastic trim tool, release the retaining clips.

9. Disconnect the electrical connectors.

10. Instrument Panel Switch Trim Plate Bolt (1) » Remove
11. Disconnect the electrical connectors.

13. Reposition the weatherstrip as necessary.
14. Pull down the windshield garnish molding (1) rearwards to release the tether from the A pillar.
15. Access the windshield garnish bolt (2) which is located on the backside of the windshield garnish molding (1) and secures the tether to the A pillar.

18. Using a flat-bladed plastic trim tool, release the retaining clips.

Use care not to bend or deform the thin area of the instrument panel trim pad.

56. Instrument Panel Airbag Bolt (1) » Remove [3x]
57. Disconnect the electrical connector.

Note

The instrument panel upper trim panel and instrument panel airbag will be removed as an assembly. Instrument panel airbag is a single use component. The airbag will need to be removed and scrapped.

58. Remove the instrument panel upper trim panel (1) with the aid of an assistant.

59. Insert the flat tip driver (3) in between the airbag chute (2) and the air bag module hook (1) at the dotted line or base of hook , as shown above in graphic.
60. Tilt the flat tip driver forward until the air bag module hooks (1) break or bend enough to relieve the tension and allow for easier removal of the airbag from the chute.

61. Instrument Panel Airbag (1) » Remove and DISCARD
62. Inflatable Restraint Module Handling and Scrapping Installation Procedure

Warning

Never install the passenger airbag module into the instrument panel assembly that airbag module chute is cut. This may cause incorrect deployment when the passenger airbag is deployed.

Note

When replacing instrument panel upper trim panel, always install a NEW instrument panel airbag. Instrument panel airbag is a single use component.

1. Position the instrument panel airbag (1) on the air bag chute.

Caution

Make sure that the passenger airbag is installed into the chute completely.

2. Push the instrument panel airbag (1) into the airbag chute until the hooks of airbag module are seated completely.

3. Install the instrument panel upper trim panel (1) with the aid of an assistant.

4. Connect the electrical connector.

Refer to Fastener Caution.

6. Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate (2) » Install

7. Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bolt (1) » Tighten [4x] — Fastener Specifications

8. Connect the electrical connectors.

9. Instrument Panel Transmission Shift Opening Cover (2) » Install

10. Instrument Panel Center Trim Panel Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [6x] — Fastener Specifications

11. Instrument Panel Upper Trim Panel Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [15x] — Fastener Specifications

12. Connect the electrical connector.

13. Radio Front Speaker (2) » Install

14. Radio Front Speaker Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

15. Radio Front Speaker Grille (1) » Install

16. Windshield Garnish Molding (3) » Install

17. Windshield Pillar Assist Handle Bolt (2) » Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

18. Windshield Pillar Assist Handle Cover (1) » Install [2x]

19. Reposition the weatherstrip as necessary.

20. Connect the electrical connector.

22. Instrument Panel Upper Trim Panel Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [6x] — Fastener Specifications

23. Instrument Panel Center Trim Plate Applique (1) » Install

24. Instrument Panel Trim Plate Applique (1) » Install

25. Instrument Panel Fuse Block Access Hole Cover (1) » Install

26. Connect the electrical connector.

27. Radio Front Center Speaker (2) » Install

28. Radio Front Center Speaker Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

29. Connect the electrical connector.

30. Instrument Panel Extension (1) » Install

31. Connect the electrical connector.

33. Radio Front Speaker Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

34. Radio Front Speaker Grille (1) » Install

35. Windshield Garnish Molding Bolt (2) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

36. Align the retaining clips with the slots in the A pillar and press the windshield garnish molding  (1) into place.

37. Windshield Garnish Molding (1) » Install

38. Reposition the weatherstrip as necessary.

39. Connect the electrical connectors.

40. Instrument Panel Switch Trim Plate (2) » Install

41. Instrument Panel Switch Trim Plate Bolt (1) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

42. Connect the electrical connectors.

43. Instrument Panel Trim Pad (2) » Install

44. Instrument Panel Trim Pad Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

45. Instrument Panel Trim Plate Applique (1) » Install

46. Instrument Panel Fuse Block Access Hole Cover (1) » Install
