Circuit/System Description When the S30 Headlamp Switch is placed in the HEAD or PARK position, ground is applied to the park lamp switch ON signal circuit 13 to the K9 Body Control Module (BCM). The BCM responds by sending a serial data message to the K219 Lighting Control Module to request the park, tail, and license plate lamps on. The Lighting Control Module responds by applying voltage to the park lamps, tail lamps, and license lamps control circuits illuminating the park, tail, and license lamps. - Ignition on/vehicle in service mode.
- Verify the scan tool Headlamp Switch Signal data parameter is PARK when placing the headlamp switch in the park position. ⇒ If the parameter is not PARK Refer to Circuit/System Testing – Headlamp Switch Malfunction. ⇓ If the parameter is PARK
- Verify the park/marker/tail lamps all turn ON and OFF when turning the park lamps ON and OFF with the headlamp switch. ⇒ If one or more of the lamps do not turn ON and OFF Refer to Circuit/System Testing – Park Lamps Malfunction. ⇓ If all of the lamps turn ON and OFF
- Verify the license plate lamp(s) turn ON and OFF when commanding the License Plate Lamps ON and OFF with a scan tool. ⇒ If the license plate lamps do not turn ON and OFF Refer to Circuit/System Testing – License Plate Lamps Malfunction. ⇓ If the license plate lamps turn ON and OFF
- A fault is not currently present and may be an intermittent condition. Circuit/System Testing Headlamp Switch Malfunction
- Ignition/vehicle off, disconnect the connector at the S30 Headlamp Switch.
- Verify a test lamp illuminates between ground circuit terminal 8 and B+: ⇒ If the test lamp does not illuminate 2.1. Repair the open/high resistance on circuit 1850 or ground connection. ⇓ If the test lamp illuminates
- Ignition on/vehicle in service mode, connect a 3 A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 5 and ground.
- Verify the scan tool Headlamp Switch Signal data parameter changes between PARK and AUTO when connecting and disconnecting the jumper wire. ⇒ If the parameter does not change and the 3 A fuse is OK 4.1. Test circuit 13 for an open/high resistance. ⇒ If an open/high resistance is found, repair the fault on the circuit. ⇓ If an open/high resistance is not found. 4.2. Replace the K9 Body Control Module. ⇒ If the parameter does not change and the 3 A fuse is open 4.1. Test circuit 13 for a short to voltage. ⇒ If a short to voltage is found, repair the fault on the circuit. ⇓ If a short to voltage is not found. 4.2. Replace the K9 Body Control Module. ⇒ If the parameter is always PARK 4.1. Test circuit 13 for a short to ground. ⇒ If a short to ground is found, repair the fault on the circuit. ⇓ If a short to ground is not found. 4.2. - Verify a test lamp illuminates between the appropriate ground circuit terminal and B+: E13 Front Headlamp = Terminal 1 E2 Front Side Marker Lamp = Terminal 2 E42 Rear Body Structure Stop Lamp = Terminal 1 ⇒ If the test lamp does not illuminate 2.1. Repair the open/high resistance on the ground circuit or ground connection. ⇓ If the test lamp illuminates
- Connect a test lamp between the appropriate control circuit terminal and ground, ignition ON: E13 Front Headlamp = Terminal 8 E2 Front Side Marker Lamp = Terminal 1 E42 Rear Body Structure Stop Lamp = Terminal 3
- Verify the test lamp turns ON and OFF when commanding the park lamps ON and OFF with the headlamp switch. ⇒ If the test lamp is always OFF 4.1. - Replace the appropriate park/marker/tail lamp. License Plate Lamps Malfunction
- Ignition OFF, exterior lamps OFF, disconnect the connector at the E7 Rear License Plate Lamp.
- Verify a test lamp illuminates between ground circuit terminal 1 and B+. ⇒ If the test lamp does not illuminate 2.1. Repair the open/high resistance on the ground circuit or ground connection. ⇓ If the test lamp illuminates
- Connect a test lamp between control circuit terminal 2 and ground, ignition ON.
- Verify the test lamp turns ON and OFF when commanding the License Plate Lamps ON and OFF with a scan tool. ⇒ If the test lamp is always OFF 4.1. Test circuit 6846 for a short to ground. ⇒ If a short to ground is found, repair the fault on the circuit. ⇓ If a short to ground is not found 4.2. Test circuit 6846 for an open/high resistance. ⇒ If an open/high resistance is found, repair the fault on the circuit. ⇓ If an open/high resistance is not found 4.3. Replace the K219 Lighting Control Module. ⇒ If the test lamp is always ON 4.1. Test circuit 6846 for a short to voltage. ⇒ If a short to voltage is found, repair the fault on the circuit. ⇓ If a short to voltage is not found. 4.2. Replace the K219 Lighting Control Module. ⇓ If the test lamp turns ON and OFF
