Description
Control — Terminal 2
The output circuit is switched from ground to 12 V to activate the component.

The output circuit is switched from ground to 12 V to activate the component.

Description
M104L Parking Brake Actuator - Left
The park brake function uses the same brake pads as the operational brake in the rear calipers. An electric motor in each caliper is used to apply and release the brake pads.

K160 Brake System Control Module
The control module K160 can increase and decrease the brake pressure on all 4 wheels individually in order to fulfill these functions: Antilock Braking Traction Control Vehicle Stability Control
Conditions for Running the DTC
Ignition = On
System Voltage = 9 to 16 V
Conditions for Setting the DTC
M104L Parking Brake Actuator - Left = Malfunction
Left Park Brake Actuator Circuit = Malfunction
Actions Taken When the DTC Sets
Parking Brake Actuator = Disabled
A message and/or warning indicator may be displayed to the driver.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
The conditions for setting the DTC no longer exist.
A history DTC will clear after 40 consecutive malfunction-free ignition cycles.
Diagnostic Aids
The park brake is disabled as long as the DTC is set. It might be necessary to clear the DTC with a
scan tool after repairing the fault to make the park brake work again.

Test for less than 1 V between the test points:
Terminal 2 @ K160 Brake System Control Module Harness Connector & Ground
Terminal 3 @ K160 Brake System Control Module Harness Connector & Ground
⇒ If 1 V or greater
Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
⇓ If less than 1 V
Ignition/Vehicle » Off
Test for infinite resistance between the test points:
Terminal 2 @ K160 Brake System Control Module Harness Connector & Ground
Terminal 3 @ K160 Brake System Control Module Harness Connector & Ground
⇒ If less than infinite resistance
Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
⇓ If infinite resistance
Test for less than 2 Ω between the test points: Terminal 1 @ Harness Connector - M104L
Parking Brake Actuator - Left & Terminal 2 @ Harness Connector - K160 Brake System Control
Module
⇒ If 2 Ω or greater » Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
⇓ If less than 2 Ω
Test for less than 2 Ω between the test points: Terminal 2 @ Harness Connector - M104L
Parking Brake Actuator - Left & Terminal 3 @ Harness Connector - K160 Brake System Control
Module
⇒ If 2 Ω or greater » Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
⇓ If less than 2 Ω
Connect a 25 A fused jumper wire between the test points: M104L Parking Brake Actuator -
Left — Control terminal 1 & 12 V
Momentarily connect a jumper wire between the test points: M104L Parking Brake Actuator -
Left — Control terminal 2 & Ground
Reverse the jumper wires 2 times between the terminals.
Verify the component works as specified: M104L Parking Brake Actuator - Left = Apply &
Release
⇒ If not the specified state
Replace the component: M104L Parking Brake Actuator - Left
⇓ If the specified state
Replace the component: K160 Brake System Control Module

2.1. Perform the following learn procedure: Park Brake Calibration.
2.2. Ignition » On / Vehicle » In Service Mode
2.3. Apply the parking brake.
2.4. Release the parking brake.
2.5. Verify the DTC does not set.
⇒ If the DTC sets » Replace the component: M104L Parking Brake Actuator - Left
⇓ If the DTC is not set
2.6. All OK.
