Circuit/System Description The rear differential lock actuator has four wire sensor that consists of a 5 V reference, low reference, and signal circuits 1 and 2. Conditions for Running the DTC Ignition ON. System voltage is 9–16V Conditions for Setting the DTC C1058 11, C1060 11, C10A7 14 The K164 Differential Control Module detects a short to ground on the circuit. C1058 12, C1060 12, C10A7 12 The K164 Differential Control Module detects a short to voltage on the circuit. C1058 13, C1060 13, C10A7 13 The K164 Differential Control Module detects an open/high resistance on the circuit. C1058 17, C1060 17 The K164 Differential Control Module detects the signal circuit is shorted to voltage reference. C1058 2B, C1060 2B The K164 Differential Control Module detects the signal circuits are shorted together. C1172 64 The K164 Differential Control Module detects a signal plausibility failure. Action Taken When the DTC Sets System is disabled — clutch open SERVICE REAR AXLE message is displayed in the Driver Information Center Conditions for Clearing the DTC A current DTC clears on the following key cycle after the malfunction is no longer present. A history DTC clears when the device ignition cycle counter reaches the reset threshold of 50, without a repeat of the malfunction.   1. Ignition OFF and all vehicle systems OFF, disconnect the connector at the M135 Differential Lock Motor. It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down.
  2. Verify a test lamp illuminates between the low reference circuit terminal 9 and B+. ⇒ If the test lamp does not illuminate 2.1. Test circuit 7974 for an open/high resistance. ⇒ If an open/high resistance is found, repair the fault on the circuit or ground connection. ⇓ If an open/high resistance is not found. 2.2. Replace the K164 Differential Control Module. ⇓ If the test lamp illuminates
  3. Ignition ON/Vehicle In Service Mode.
  4. Test for 4.8–5.2 V between the 5 V reference circuit terminal 4 and ground. ⇒ If less than 4.8 V 4.1. Ignition OFF. 4.2. Test circuit 7973 for a short to ground. ⇒ If a short to ground is found, repair the fault on the circuit. ⇓ If a short to ground is not found. 4.3. Test circuit 7973 for an open/high resistance. ⇒ If an open/high resistance is found, repair the fault on the circuit. ⇓ If an open/high resistance is not found. 4.4. Replace the K164 Differential Control Module. ⇒ If greater than 5.2 V 4.1. Test circuit 7973 for a short to voltage. ⇒ If a short to voltage is found, repair the fault on the circuit. ⇓ If a short to voltage is not found. 4.2. Replace the K164 Differential Control Module. ⇓ If between 4.8–5.2 V
  5. Connect the connector at the M135 Differential Lock Motor.
  6. Ignition ON. Verify DTC C1058 or C1060 do not set. ⇒ If any of the DTCs set 6.1. Test the appropriate circuit for a short to ground: DTC C1058 = Circuit 7975 DTC C1060 = Circuit 7976 ⇒ If a short to ground is found, repair the fault on the circuit. ⇓ If a short to ground is not found. 6.2. Test the appropriate circuit for a short to voltage: DTC C1058 = Circuit 7975 DTC C1060 = Circuit 7976 ⇒ If a short to voltage is found, repair the fault on the circuit. ⇓ If a short to voltage is not found. 6.3. Test the appropriate circuit for an open/high resistance: DTC C1058 = Circuit 7975 DTC C1060 = Circuit 7976 ⇒ If an open/high resistance is found, repair the fault on the circuit. ⇓ If an open/high resistance is not found. 6.4. Replace the K164 Differential Control Module. 6.5. Operate the vehicle under Conditions for Running the DTC. 6.6. Verify the DTCs do not set. ⇒ If the DTCs set Replace the M135 Differential Lock Motor. ⇓ If the DTCs do not set 6.7. All OK. ⇓ If none of the DTCs set
  7. A fault is not currently present and may be an intermittent condition. Repair Instructions Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the repair.
