Special Tools EL-52545 Tire Pressure Monitor Sensor and RF Diagnostic Tool EL-52641 Trailer Presence Simulator Tool EL-50448 Tire Pressure Monitor Sensor Activation Tool For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools. Learn Mode Description The trailer tire pressure monitor system uses the instrument cluster, center stack module, trailer tire pressure indicator module, up to 6 radio frequency transmitting pressure sensors, and the serial data circuit to perform the tire pressure monitor learn mode functions. The sensor learn procedure must be performed after every tire rotation, trailer tire pressure indicator module replacement, or sensor replacement. Once the Learn mode has been enabled, each of the sensors unique identification codes can be learned into the trailer tire pressure indicator module memory. When a sensor ID has been learned, the trailer tire pressure indicator module sounds a horn chirp and all turn signals will illuminate indicating the sensor has transmitted its ID and the trailer tire pressure indicator module has received and learned it. The trailer tire pressure indicator module must learn the sensor IDs in the proper sequence depending on the number of axles a trailer will have to determine correct sensor location. Sensor Functions Using EL-52545, EL-50448, or Equivalent Each sensor has an internal low frequency coil. When the tire pressure monitor special tool is used in activate mode, it produces a low frequency transmission that activates the sensor. The sensor responds to a low frequency activation by transmitting in Learn Mode-Remotely Triggered. When the trailer tire pressure indicator module receives a learn mode transmission while in Learn mode, it will assign that sensors ID to the location on the vehicle relative to the order in which it was learned. Learn Mode Cancellation The Learn mode will cancel if the ignition is cycled to OFF or if more than 2 minutes has elapsed for any sensor or 12 min overall has elapsed to match all six sensors. If the relearn mode is cancelled before the first sensor is learned, the original sensor IDs will be maintained. If the relearn mode is canceled after the first sensor is learned, the following will occur: All stored sensor IDs will be invalidated in the trailer tire pressure indicator module memory. If equipped, the driver information center will display dashes instead of tire pressures. These conditions will now require the Learn procedure to be repeated for the system to function properly. Trailer Tire Pressure Monitor Learn Procedure

  1. Apply park brake (manual transmission only).
  2. Ignition ON/Vehicle in Service Mode, make sure customer trailer is connected and trailer profile is created.
  3. Using a scan tool relearn function, initiate the Trailer Tire Pressure Sensors Learn mode. A double horn chirp will sound and the turn signals will illuminate twice indicating the Learn mode has been enabled.
  4. Starting with the left front trailer tire, activate the sensor by holding the antenna of the tire pressure monitor special tool aimed upward against the tire sidewall close to the wheel rim at the valve stem location. Press and release the activate button. Ensure that the transmit indicator on the special tool indicates that the sensor activation signal is being transmitted. Wait for a single horn chirp and turn signal will also illuminate once. If the horn does not chirp, repeat the sensor activation sequence with the tool. Once the horn chirp has sounded, the sensor information is learned.
  5. After the horn chirp has sounded, repeat step 4 for the remaining sensors in the following order: Right front if the trailer has one axle. Left rear, right rear, and right front if the trailer has two axles. Left middle, left rear, right rear, right middle, and right front if the trailer has three axles.
  6. When the last sensor has been learned, a double horn chirp will sound and the turn signals will illuminate twice indicating the learn process is complete and the trailer tire pressure indicator module exits the Learn mode. Without Available Customer Trailer
  7. Apply park brake (manual transmission only).
  8. Ignition ON/Vehicle in Service Mode.
  9. Connect the EL-52641. Refer to Special Tools. If the EL-52641 is not available, connect a simulated trailer, such as a trailer load box tool or a custom trailer simulator with complete and functioning trailer lights. Refer to: Trailering Description and Operation for more information on creating a simulated trailer tool.
  10. Using the built-in feature in Trailering app, Initiate the Trailer Tire Pressure Sensors Learn mode. A double horn chirp will sound and the turn signals will illuminate twice indicating the Learn mode has been enabled.
  11. Starting with the sensor that will be installed into the left front trailer tire, activate the sensor by holding the antenna of the tire pressure monitor special tool aimed at the valve stem of the sensor. Press and release the activate button. Ensure that the transmit indicator on the special tool indicates that the sensor activation signal is being transmitted. Wait for a single horn chirp and turn signal will also illuminate once. If the horn does not chirp, repeat the sensor activation sequence with the tool. Once the horn chirp has sounded, the sensor information is learned.
  12. After the horn chirp has sounded, repeat step 5 for the remaining sensors in the following order: Right front if the trailer has one axle. Left rear, right rear, and right front if the trailer has two axles. Left middle, left rear, right rear, right middle, and right front if the trailer has three axles.
  13. When the last sensor has been learned, a double horn chirp will sound and the turn signals will illuminate twice indicating the learn process is complete and the trailer tire pressure indicator module exits the Learn mode.
