Power Steering Control Module Wiring Harness Replacement (Torque Sensor without RC1)

Caution

Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage many solid-state electrical components. ESD susceptible components may or may not be labeled with the ESD symbol. Handle all electrical components carefully. Use the following precautions in order to avoid ESD damage: Touch a metal ground point in order to remove your body’s static charge before servicing any electronic component; especially after sliding across the vehicle seat. Do not touch exposed terminals. Terminals may connect to circuits susceptible the ESD damage. Do not allow tools to contact exposed terminals when servicing connectors. Do not remove components from their protective packaging until required to do so. Avoid the following actions unless required by the diagnostic procedure: – Jumpering or grounding of the components or connectors. – Connecting test equipment probes to components or connectors. Connect the ground lead first when using test probes. Ground the protective packaging of any component before opening. Do not rest solid-state components on metal workbenches, or on top of TVs, radios, or other electrical devices.

Caution

During removal and installation, all EPS components including mechanical and/or electrical is extremely susceptible to damage. Dropping or prying on any EPS component may cause internal damage. If damage occurs or a part is dropped, the EPS component must be replaced.

Caution

Care must be taken during removal and installation of the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) components to not hit or break the EPS motor/controller module or module harness connectors. If the EPS motor/ controller module or module connectors are damaged, the complete component must be replaced. Removal Procedure

1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle

3. Underbody Skid Shield Bolt (1) » Remove [4x]
4. Underbody Skid Shield (2) » Remove

5. Front Bumper Fascia Air Deflector Bolt (1) » Remove [10x]
6. Front Bumper Fascia Extension Bolt (2) » Remove [8x]

7. Pull the front bumper fascia extension (1) rearward and down from the front bumper fascia.

8. Front Bumper Fascia Extension Bolt (2) » Remove [4x]
9. Pull the front bumper fascia extension (4) rearward and down.
10. Remove the charge air cooler, condenser, fan motor, and radiator assembly. Charge Air Cooler, Condenser, Fan Motor, and Radiator Assembly Removal and Installation

11. Remove the power steering assist motor wire clip (3).
12. Remove the power steering control module wiring power harness (1) from the 2 retaining clips  (2) and reposition.

13. Disconnect the power steering control module wiring torque sensor harness (1) from the electric belt drive rack and pinion steering gear.

14. Remove the power steering assist motor wire clip (3).

15. Disconnect the power steering control module torque sensor wiring harness (1) from the power steering assist motor.

16. Remove the power steering control module torque sensor wiring harness clip (2) from the electric belt drive rack and pinion steering gear housing.

17. Remove the power steering control module torque sensor wiring harness. Installation Procedure

18. Install the power steering control module torque sensor wiring harness.

19. Install the power steering assist motor wire clip (3).

20. Install the power steering control module torque sensor wiring harness clip (2) to the electric belt drive rack and pinion steering gear housing.

21. Connect the power steering control module torque sensor wiring harness (1) to the power steering assist motor.

5. Connect the power steering control module torque sensor wiring harness (1) to the electric belt drive rack and pinion steering gear.

6. Install the power steering assist motor wire clip (3).

7. Position the power steering control module wiring power harness (1) into the 2 retaining clips (2).

8. Install the charge air cooler, condenser, fan motor, and radiator assembly. Charge Air Cooler, Condenser, Fan Motor, and Radiator Assembly Removal and Installation

9. Front Bumper Fascia Extension (4) » Install

Caution

Refer to Fastener Caution.

10. Front Bumper Fascia Extension Bolt (2) » Install and tighten [4x] — Fastener Specifications

11. Front Bumper Fascia Extension (1) » Install

12. Front Bumper Fascia Extension Bolt (2) » Install and tighten [8x] — Fastener Specifications

13. Front Bumper Fascia Air Deflector Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [10x] — Fastener Specifications

14. Underbody Skid Shield (2) » Install

15. Underbody Skid Shield Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [4x] — Fastener Specifications

16. Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.

17. Connect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection

18. Clear DTCs.
