Rear Brake Caliper Guide Pin Replacement

The battery must be disconnected to prevent the brake master cylinder from pressurizing the hydraulic system during its automated self diagnostic tests that can possibly occur when a door is opened or the key transmitter is activated. Failure to follow this precaution may cause personal injury.

Note

Use all components included with the service kit. Removal Procedure

1. Set the parking brake in Service Mode. Parking Brake Service Mode Selection
2. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
3. Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
4. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation

5. { If equipped } Rear Brake Bleeder Valve Cap (1) » Remove
6. { If equipped } Rear Disc Brake Pad Wear Sensor (2) @ Rear Disc Brake Pad » Remove

7. Electrical Connector (1) @ Rear Parking Brake Actuator » Disconnect

Note

DO NOT use any air tools to remove or install the guide pin bolts. Use hand tools ONLY.

Caution

Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.

Note

It is not necessary to disconnect the rear brake hose.

9. Remove the rear brake caliper (1) and support it with heavy mechanics wire.

10. Rear Brake Caliper Guide Pin (2) » Remove [2x]

11. Rear Brake Caliper Guide Pin Boot (1) » Remove and DISCARD [2x] Installation Procedure

12. Rear Brake Caliper Guide Pin Boot (1) » Install NEW [2x]

Note

The upper brake caliper guide pin is equipped with a bushing and must be installed in the same position.

3. Rear Brake Caliper (1) » Install

4. Rear Brake Caliper Guide Pin Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

5. Electrical Connector (1) @ Rear Parking Brake Actuator » Connect

Note

Rear disc brake pad wear sensor heads are brittle and should be handled with care when installing.

6. { If equipped } Rear Disc Brake Pad Wear Sensor (2) @ Rear Disc Brake Pad » Install
7. { If equipped } Rear Brake Bleeder Valve Cap (1) » Install
8. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
9. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
10. Connect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
11. Calibrate the park brake. Park Brake Calibration
