1. Outside Rearview Mirror Flood Lamp Malfunction

Circuit/System Description Approach lighting is commanded ON when the unlock button is pressed on the keyless entry transmitter during dark ambient light conditions. When the keyless entry transmitter unlock button is pressed, a serial data message is sent by the K9 Body Control Module (BCM) that the vehicle is being unlocked. The K219 Lighting Control Module responds to the serial data message by applying voltage to the approach lamp control circuit 5966 illuminating the LED lighting located under each outside rearview mirror as part of approach lighting. 1. Ignition/vehicle off, exterior lamps off, ambient light sensor covered to simulate dark ambient light conditions.
  2. Verify both outside rearview mirror flood lamps turn on when pressing the unlock button on the keyless entry transmitter and turns off when pressing the lock button on the keyless entry transmitter. ⇒ If the outside rearview mirror flood lamps do not turn on and off Refer to Circuit/System Testing ⇓ If the outside rearview mirror flood lamps turn on and off
  3. A fault is not currently present and may be an intermittent condition. Circuit/System Testing
  4. Ignition/vehicle OFF, disconnect the connector at the appropriate component with the inoperative flood lamp: A9A Outside Rearview Mirror – Driver A9B Outside Rearview Mirror – Passenger
  5. Verify a test lamp illuminates between ground circuit terminal 9 and B+. ⇒ If the test lamp does not illuminate 2.1. Repair the open/high resistance on the ground circuit or ground connection. ⇓ If the test lamp illuminates
  6. Connect a test lamp between control circuit terminal 5 and ground.
  7. All doors closed, exterior lamps off, ambient light sensor covered with a towel to simulate dark ambient light conditions.
  8. Verify the test lamp illuminates when pressing the unlock button on the keyless entry transmitter. ⇒ If the test lamp is always OFF 5.1. Test circuit 5966 for a short to ground. ⇒ If a short to ground is found, repair the fault on the circuit. ⇓ If a short to ground is not found 5.2. Test circuit 5966 for an open/high resistance. ⇒ If an open/high resistance is found, repair the fault on the circuit. ⇓ If an open/high resistance is not found 5.3. Replace the K219 Lighting Control Module. ⇓ If the test lamp illuminates
  9. Verify the test lamp turns OFF when pressing the lock button on the keyless entry transmitter. ⇒ If the test lamp is always ON 6.1. Test circuit 5966 for a short to voltage. ⇒ If a short to voltage is found, repair the fault on the circuit. ⇓ If a short to voltage is not found 6.2. Replace the K219 Lighting Control Module. ⇓ If the test lamp turns OFF
  10. Replace the appropriate E90 Exterior Flood Lamp – Outside Rearview Mirror. Repair Instructions Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the repair. Lighting Component Replacement Reference Control Module References for BCM replacement, programming, and setup
